SHFGS Parents’ Society is an active and vital part of life at Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School. Membership consists of parents and carers of children attending the school and a staff representative. The head teacher, Ms Cochrane, is our president and is present at many meetings.
We organise events for both students and parents to enjoy with the aim of raising funds to enable SHFGS to buy items not covered by the school budget. In the past, the SHFGS Parents’ Society have funded IT equipment, the fitness room in the new sports hall, full sets of ipads complete with charging trolley, food technology and PA equipment, and much more. We liaise with the school to agree on what we are fundraising for and last year we raised over £10,000, concentrating our efforts on supporting the school’s proposals for developing the canteen, upgrading it from a school dining hall to a stylish new restaurant environment. We have also funded various up to date software packages, furniture for the library and a video camera for the theatre.

If everyone supported our raffle, even in a small way, we would be well on the way to achieving our target for this year. We hope you will be able to support
this venture by buying and/or selling the raffle tickets which are priced at £1 each.
Please return the stubs for the tickets you have sold and any unsold tickets before Wednesday 12th December to the School Finance Office in a sealed envelope addressed to “SHFGS Parents’ Society Midsummer Raffle” and marked with your child’s name, tutor group and amount enclosed. Cheques should be made payable to SHFGS Parents’ Society.
On Saturday 24th November we will be opening our doors for the annual Christmas Fayre from 12-3pm at school. This traditional family fundraiser with craft and gift stalls, tombola, raffle, lucky dip, student-run stalls, refreshments and freshly baked pizzas from MOZZARELLA NATION is always a very popular event. We are very happy to welcome back the famous children’s author, Steve Cole, who will be signing and selling his books. New this year is the Bug Store, described as ‘the best toy shop ever’, so do join us to have some fun and do some Christmas shopping.

The Giving Machine
Support the school simply by shopping on the internet. By starting your online shopping trip through The Giving Machine website, a percentage of the money that you spend is donated to the school. This simple measures costs you nothing as the donation is made by the companies that you buy from. The Parents’ Society collect unwanted uniform items and make them available to other students. We accept all types of uniform and run our stall at parents’ evenings and other school events. If you have any uniform to donate please contact us at or leave bagged items at school reception. Blazers and ties are particularly popular.
Tickets cost £1 per week each and are entered into a weekly draw with a guaranteed winner from within our school community.
The more people that participate, the bigger this guaranteed prize becomes and the more money raised for our school. On top of this, you will also be entered into a separate draw with a chance to win an amazing £25,000 EVERY WEEK!
It really is a win-win situation!
Remember the more tickets we sell, the bigger the prizes and the more funds raised for our school! Currently we are on track to raise nearly £5,000 per year and our weekly prize has just topped £70! It’s really easy – everything is explained on the Your School Lottery website.

This new lottery replaces the Flottery which the Parents’ Society ran for many years but was very labour-intensive. With this new lottery, everything is done online.
Whilst our lottery will be just for our school and its community, the site hosts the lotteries of many schools and by managing all the lotteries centrally the system is more efficient. This gives them the scale which enables schools to provide much bigger prizes than they could do on their own whilst also generating as much profit for the school as possible. This is a great way to support our school – for much less than the cost of a cup of coffee every week and from the comfort of your own sofa, you could be a lucky winner!

How can you help?
The SHFGS Parents’ Society is run by parents for the benefit of all our children and the school. It relies on help volunteered by parents and there are a number of ways you can be involved:
First and foremost, please support the events and activities!
Join the Committee
Come along to one of our meetings - new, fresh ideas are always welcome. We meet twice per term to organise our events and discuss how our funds are allocated - next meetings are on 5 November, 21 January, 4 March, 29 April and 17 June.
Become a Helper
Add your name to our Helpers’ List of parents who have volunteered to help at events, if called on. If you can help at one event or many, any help is very much appreciated.
Do you work for or know someone who would be able to provide a raffle prize? It could be goods, vouchers or services.
Do you work for a company that offers matched charity giving? By being involved in one of our fundraising activities you may be able to apply for a matched donation of up to £500. Please ask your HR department.
Do you have any contacts that you are happy to share for obtaining discounts or supplies of goods and services that may be useful to the Parents’ Society, maybe supplies/suppliers of drinks and catering, entertainers, advertising services, raffle prizes?
We always need new ideas, so if you have attended successful events elsewhere which you think would suit SHFGS, let us know.
